Set up an Agentforce MCP client

To enable Agentforce AI agents to use the tools provided by your Coveo Hosted MCP Server, you need to establish a connection between the Agentforce MCP client and your Hosted MCP Server.

At a high level, this process involves the following steps:

This article provides detailed instructions for each of these steps. It also includes prerequisites and next steps to help you successfully set up your Agentforce MCP client and start using your Hosted MCP Server tools in your Agentforce agents.

Prerequisites

Register your Hosted MCP Server in the Agentforce Registry

You need to register your Hosted MCP Server so Agentforce can connect to it and discover its tools.

Important

The Agentforce interface evolves quickly, and updates are added regularly. Although we strive to keep this documentation current, you may encounter discrepancies between this content and the current state of the Agentforce interface.

  1. From the Salesforce Setup menu, in the Quick Find box, enter Agentforce Registry, and then select MCP Servers.

  2. On the Agentforce Registry page, click New, and then select Register MCP Server.

  3. On the Create Connection window, fill in the following fields:

    1. MCP Server Name: Enter a name to identify the connection to your Hosted MCP Server (for example, coveomcpserver).

    2. (Optional) Description: Enter a description for this server connection (for example, Connection to the Hosted MCP Server that provides access to the Coveo MCP tools).

    3. Server URL: Enter the endpoint of your Hosted MCP Server configuration.

    4. Authentication Method: Select OAuth 2.0, and then fill in the required fields as follows:

      Tip

At this time, you must select OAuth 2.0 no matter which authentication method (OAuth or Anonymous API key) was set in your Hosted MCP Server configuration.

      1. In the Identity Provider URL field, copy the following URL:

        https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/api/v1/organizations/<ORGANIZATION_ID>/mcp/agentforce-oauth-token

Where <ORGANIZATION_ID> is your Coveo organization ID. For more information, see Find your organization ID.

      2. The Scope field can be left empty.

      3. In the Client ID field, enter any value. However, using the same value as the MCP Server Name (for example, coveomcpserver) is recommended for easy identification.

      4. In the Client secret field, enter the API key of your Hosted MCP Server configuration.

  4. Click Create and Continue.

Salesforce establishes a connection with your Hosted MCP Server using the information you provided.

  5. From the MCP Server Allowlist window, select the Hosted MCP Server tools you want your Agentforce agents to use, and then click Allow and Continue.

  6. Click Save to save your changes.

    Tip

The Hosted MCP Server tools are automatically added to the Asset Library as Agent actions.
