Ranking rules for product listing pages

This is for:

Merchandiser

In the Coveo Merchandising Hub (CMH), merchandisers can define ranking rules to influence the order in which products are displayed on Product listing page (PLP). Ranking rules are used to boost or bury specific products based on specific conditions. They can also be used to pin products at a specific position on a PLP. For example, a merchandiser can create a ranking rule too boost the ranking of products that are on sale, or bury products that are out of stock.

Ranking rules can apply to all PLPs or to a specific PLP.

Use case examples

Listings ranking rules can be used to address a variety of use cases. Here are a few examples:

  • Boost promoted products: Raise the ranking of products that are part of a specific promotion.

  • Enforce a specific order: Pin products to the top of a PLP to enforce a specific order.

  • Bury out-of-season products: Lower the ranking of products that aren’t currently in season.

  • Highlight new arrivals: Increase the visibility of newly added products to the inventory.

  • Boost high stock products: Promote products that have a high inventory to encourage sales.

Prerequisites

To create rules, merchandisers must ensure they have properly configured their query pipeline and chosen the correct tracking ID to ensure that their changes impact the intended listing pages.

Create a ranking rule

There are three types of ranking rules that you can create to influence the order in which products are displayed on PLPs. Depending on the type of ranking rule you want to create, refer to the following articles for specific instructions:

  • Boost: Products that meet the conditions will see their ranking boosted on PLPs.

  • Bury: Products that meet the conditions will see their ranking decreased on PLPs.

  • Pin: Products that meet the conditions will be pinned at a specific position on PLPs.
