Include rules for product listing pages

This is for:

Developer

In the Product listings manager of the Coveo Merchandising Hub (CMH), merchandisers can define Include filter rules to ensure that specific items are always included on the Product listing page (PLP).

Include filter rules don’t prevent products from being excluded from product listing pages, nor do they affect the ranking of the products on these pages. They only ensure that products meeting specified criteria are included on PLPs. For example, you have a PLP that displays products from the "Canoes & Kayaks" category and you want to include additional accessories on the page, such as dry bags.

Tip
Leading practice
  • If you need to exclude specific products from a PLP, use Exclude filter rules.

  • If you need to affect the ranking of specific products on a PLP, use Ranking rules.

Include filter rules can apply to all PLPs or to a specific PLP.

Use case examples

Include filter rules can be used to address a variety of use cases. Here are a few examples:

  • You want to ensure that new arrivals are always included on a PLP. For example, you can create a rule to ensure that products marked as new arrivals are displayed on the PLP.

  • You want to ensure that promotional items are included on the PLP. For example, during a sale, you can create a rule to ensure that products that have the ec_promo_price attribute are displayed on the PLP.

  • You want to ensure that products with specific attributes are included on the PLP. For example, if you have a page dedicated to eco-friendly products, you can create a rule to ensure products with eco-friendly as the value of the sustainability attribute are displayed.

Prerequisites

To create rules, merchandisers must ensure they have properly configured their query pipeline and chosen the correct tracking ID to ensure that their changes impact the intended listing pages.

Create an include rule

To create a rule:

  1. In the CMH, access the Product listings manager.

  2. From the navigation tabs, select Filter rules.

  3. Click Create filter rule, and then,

    • Depending on whether you want to apply the include rule to a specific listing page or to all listing pages, select the appropriate option.

  4. Select the Locale for which the include rule will apply. By default, a rule applies to all available locales.

  5. Select the Listing page to which the include rule will apply, and then click Done. Note that if you selected to apply the include rule to all listing pages, you won’t be able to select a listing page.

  6. Under Choose an action, select Include.

  7. Under Attribute, select the attribute on which you want to apply the include rule. For example, if you want to include products based on the color attribute, select color.

  8. Under Operator, select the operator that you want to use.

  9. Under Value, select the attribute value that you want to use to filter products. For example, if you want to filter products based on the color attribute, enter the color value that you want to use as a filter, such as red. Note that you can select multiple values for the attribute.

  10. (Optional) If you want to add more attribute-value pairs to the include rule, click Add attribute and repeat the process.

  11. Click Done.
