# Generic connector
A {doctitle} is one that isn't built to index content from a specific system.
Instead, a generic connector is flexible and adaptable for multiple types of repositories that use a common underlying technology.
For example, the Database connector is a generic connector that can be used to index different systems by connecting to and extracting data from their databases.
