# Rotation
{doctitle} is a common security practice that involves replacing an existing credential or token, such as a Coveo API key, with a new one that inherits the settings and privileges of the original.

You should rotate API keys in your [Coveo organization](https://docs.coveo.com/en/185/) regularly.
You should also rotate keys that have been exposed or exhibit suspicious activity.
