# About IPX Recommendations (IPXRECS)

[Coveo Machine Learning (Coveo ML)](https://docs.coveo.com/en/188/) [IPX Recommendation (IPXRECS)](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p6hh0418/) [models](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) provide recommended content to users in a [Coveo In-Product Experience (IPX)](https://docs.coveo.com/en/na6f0491/) search interface based on previous user activity.

The [IPXRECS](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p6hh0418/) [model](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) learns from repeated occurrences of [search](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2949#search-performsearch) and [click](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2949#click-documentview) [events](https://docs.coveo.com/en/260/) from previous user sessions in the IPX interface.
The [IPXRECS](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p6hh0418/) [model](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) then generates relevant document recommendations based on the commonly clicked documents of users visiting certain URLs.

The recommendations appear when the IPX search interface loads on the web page or application.
This is usually when a user opens an IPX interface, but it can also be when the [IPX interface reloads](https://docs.coveo.com/en/n44d0184#reset-the-ipx-interface).
The list of recommendations is based on the URL at the time when the IPX interface loads.
When a query is performed, the recommendations are replaced by search results, and the recommendations will only reappear if the IPX interface is reloaded.

> **Note**
>
> The IPX search interface lists a maximum of 5 item recommendations.
> If there are less than 5 recommendations available for the given URL, only the available recommendations are shown.

## Automatic model configuration

When you [create an IPX search interface](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3160/), an [IPX Recommendation (IPXRECS)](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p6hh0418/) [model](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) is [automatically created and associated with a query pipeline](https://docs.coveo.com/en/n4c90194#automatic-query-pipeline-configuration) that the IPX interface uses specifically for recommendations.
The [IPXRECS](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p6hh0418/) [model](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) is preconfigured to rebuild and learn from new data on a weekly schedule, based on when the model is created.

> * The recommendation [query pipeline](https://docs.coveo.com/en/180/) and the associated [IPXRECS](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p6hh0418/) [model](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) are already fully optimized for use with the IPX search interface.
> No further optimization is required.
> 
> * [IPXRECS](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p6hh0418/) [models](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) can't be added manually.
> To create a new [IPXRECS](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p6hh0418/) [model](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/), [create a new IPX search interface](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3160#create-an-ipx-interface).

> * A newly-created [IPX Recommendation (IPXRECS)](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p6hh0418/) [model](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) may display an [error status](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1894#model-status).
> This is expected because it doesn't have enough click events to generate recommendations yet.
> Once 5 click events are available and the [IPXRECS](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p6hh0418/) [model](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) rebuilds, the error disappears and the [model](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) will begin to provide recommendations.

### Edit an IPXRECS model

Because of the automatic configuration of the [IPXRECS](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p6hh0418/) [model](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/), you can only rename it or associate it with a different project when editing the model.

. On the [**Models**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/)) page, click the model you want to edit, and then click **Edit** in the Action bar.

. On the subpage that opens, select the **Configuration** tab.

. Under **Name**, edit the model's display name.

. (Optional) Use the **Project** selector to associate your model with one or more [projects](https://docs.coveo.com/en/n7ef0517/).

. Click **Save**.

### Delete an IPXRECS model

> **Notes**
>
> * If the model is associated with a query pipeline, make sure to dissociate the model from the query pipeline after deleting it.
> 
> * An IPXRECS [model](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) is automatically deleted if you [delete its associated IPX search interface](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3160#delete-an-ipx).

. On the [**Models**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/)) page, click the ML model that you want to delete, and then click **More** > **Delete** in the Action bar.

. In the panel that appears, click **Delete**.

### Review model information

On the [**Models**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/ai-and-ml/models/)) page, click the desired model, and then click **View** in the Action bar.
