# Tracking ID
A tracking ID is a unique identifier that's used to differentiate and categorize [Coveo Analytics](https://docs.coveo.com/en/182/) data by site or by application.
It connects all of the user actions within a single experience, facilitating the process of analyzing the data, including user behavior and preferences.

Tracking IDs must be registered as [properties](https://docs.coveo.com/en/p4ue0547/) in your [Coveo organization](https://docs.coveo.com/en/185/) so that [events](https://docs.coveo.com/en/260/) can be logged accurately.
