# Anonymous
An {doctitle} user is a visitor on a Coveo-powered search page who can't be identified because they don't have a unique [user ID](https://docs.coveo.com/en/268/) in an event or authentication.
Coveo uses the value of the visitor's [client ID](https://docs.coveo.com/en/lbjf0131/) (generated on the viewer's browser) to identify them.
