# Create and manage a Smart Snippet model
[Coveo Machine Learning (Coveo ML)](https://docs.coveo.com/en/188/) [Smart Snippet](https://docs.coveo.com/en/laea5490/) [models](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) provide users with answers to their [queries](https://docs.coveo.com/en/231/) by displaying a [snippet](https://docs.coveo.com/en/laeb0292/) of the most relevant result [item](https://docs.coveo.com/en/210/) directly on their results list.

> Coveo ML Smart Snippet models don't learn from [Coveo Analytics events](https://docs.coveo.com/en/260/) to provide answers to user queries (see [How Does Coveo ML Smart Snippets Work?](https://docs.coveo.com/en/l6eb0531#how-coveo-ml-smart-snippets-work)).
> **Tip**
>
> By default, content retrieval is supported only for English content.
> However, Coveo offers beta support for content retrieval in languages other than English.

## Prerequisites
To take advantage of Coveo ML Smart Snippets, make sure that:
* You have the [required privileges](https://docs.coveo.com/en/l6he0424#required-privileges) to create Smart Snippet models.
* The items you want the model to extract snippets from use the value of the [`permanentid`](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1913/) [field](https://docs.coveo.com/en/200/) as their unique identifier.
* The [content you want the model to use is optimized](https://docs.coveo.com/en/l6he0424#optimize-the-content).
* The [search interfaces in which you want to integrate the model are properly configured](https://docs.coveo.com/en/l6he0424#configure-the-search-interface).
> **Note**
>
> If an item has a field with the [**Multi-value facet** option](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1833#facet-and-multi-value-facet) enabled to indicate to Coveo that it contains multiple values, the model learns only on the first value of the field.
> If an item includes a multi-value field, select the **Facet** option instead, and then rebuild the model.
> Otherwise, be aware that only the first value in a multi-value field is used for learning purposes.
### Optimize the content
Coveo ML Smart Snippets establish correlations between the headers appearing in result items and user queries.
Therefore, your content must be configured accordingly.
For optimal results, we recommend that you use [Google structured data](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/faqpage) in JSON-LD format in the `` of the HTML items that must be used by the model to extract snippets.
