# Excerpt
An {doctitle} is a segmented text generated at [query](https://docs.coveo.com/en/231/) time from the body of an [item](https://docs.coveo.com/en/210/) in a [Coveo organization](https://docs.coveo.com/en/185/).
When a query is performed, the excerpt yields relevant item body sections in which the queried terms are highlighted.

**Example**

On the [Coveo Docs search page](https://docs.coveo.com/en/search/), you enter `coveo ml` in the search box and click **Search**.

The search page renders a list of results, with each result containing an excerpt where your original query terms and their expansions are highlighted (for example, **Coveo Machine Learning** (**Coveo ML**) models **learn** from user behavior to automatically ... **Coveo** powers the search pages in your English-only employee portal as well as in your multi-language ...).
