# Connector
A {doctitle} is a Coveo module that establishes a connection with a specific [repository](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2739/) type to access its content to be [indexed](https://docs.coveo.com/en/204/).

If an [item](https://docs.coveo.com/en/210/) is secured, the connector also extracts the corresponding [permissions](https://docs.coveo.com/en/223/) from the repository and saves them as item [metadata](https://docs.coveo.com/en/218/) (see [Content Security](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1779/) and [Coveo Cloud Management of Security Identities and Item Permissions](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1719/)).
In the Coveo Administration Console, connectors are presented as [sources](https://docs.coveo.com/en/246/).
