# Breadcrumb
{doctitle}s are usually defined as a series of sequential links that identify the location of an interface or an element in a hierarchy.
They typically let users navigate to parent locations from the current page.
In Coveo-powered [search interfaces](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2741/) specifically, the `Breadcrumb` component displays the active [search result filters](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2740/) that result from a selection of [facet](https://docs.coveo.com/en/198/) options.

The term is a metaphor from the trail of breadcrumbs left by Hansel and Gretel in the popular fairy tale.
