# Rescan
A {doctitle} is a [source](https://docs.coveo.com/en/246/) update operation during which Coveo [crawls](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2121/) a content [repository](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2739/), but only re-[indexes](https://docs.coveo.com/en/204/) new or updated content.

This type of source update consumes more resources than a [refresh](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2710/), but less than a [rebuild](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2712/), and can either be scheduled or performed manually.

> _Rescan_ can also be used as a verb, in which case it means _to perform a rescan._
