# Query ranking function
A {doctitle} (QRF) is a mathematical expression which is evaluated against each [item](https://docs.coveo.com/en/210/) returned by a [query](https://docs.coveo.com/en/231/).
Its (potentially) normalized output is added to the ranking score of the current item.
