# Crawling account
A {doctitle} is an account used by a Coveo [crawler](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2121/) to retrieve content from an enterprise system.

This account must have access to all of the content to index.
In some enterprise systems, a crawling account requires additional rights to retrieve information such as [item](https://docs.coveo.com/en/210/) [permissions](https://docs.coveo.com/en/223/) (see [Coveo management of security identities and item permissions](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1719/)).
