--- title: Add dimension and metric filters in cards slug: '2050' canonical_url: https://docs.coveo.com/en/2050/ collection: coveo-analytics source_format: adoc --- # Add dimension and metric filters in cards You can refine the data shown in each Coveo Analytics card (table, time series, etc.) by creating [dimension](https://docs.coveo.com/en/258/) and [metric](https://docs.coveo.com/en/263/) filters (see [Review and manage dashboards](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1542/) and [Review and manage explorers](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1899/)). ## Add dimension and metric filters in cards You can add one or more dimension and metric filters to cards in dashboards or explorers. . On the [**Reports**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/reports/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/reports/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/reports/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/reports/)) page, open a dashboard or explorer, then do one of the following: .. Access Edit mode by clicking **Edit** on the upper-right corner, then select the card to which you want to add filters. .. (For explorers only) When you want the filters to be applied by default in your report cards, access Edit mode by clicking **Edit** in the upper-right corner. > **Important** > > If you're not in Edit mode, your changes will be lost when you leave the explorer. . Depending on your context, click icon:filter-add-2[alt=filter-add-2,width=16] (see [Review and manage explorers](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1899#DimensionsMetricsAndFilters) and [Review and manage dashboards](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1542#add-a-card)). . In the dialog that appears: .. In the list of **Named Filters** (if any), optionally search and select one or more set of filters (see [Manage named filters](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1990/)). .. In the **Dimensions** and **Metrics** lists, select at least one [dimension or one metric on which you want to set the filter](#dimension-and-metric-filters-table) (for example, the User Query dimension and the Search Event Count metrics). Do one of the following: *** Click the links (**Search**, **Click**, and **Custom**) to quickly browse dimensions and metrics by event category, and then select one or more (see [Dimensions](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1904/) and [Metrics](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2041/)). > **Note** > > Custom data can only be leveraged when using the UA Protocol. > If your Coveo implementation uses the [Event Protocol](https://docs.coveo.com/en/o3r90189/), custom dimensions and metrics shouldn't be added to a report since they won't function as expected. *** Click **All**, and then use the **Filter** box to find and select one or more dimensions and metrics of your choice. .. In the filter definition dialog box: ... Select an operator (**Is**, **Is not**, **Contains**, **Does not contain**, **Is equal to**, **Is not equal to**, **Is lower than**, **Is lower than or equal to**, **Is greater than**, or **Is greater than or equal to**) to apply between the selected dimension or metric and the value. > **Note** > > The list of available operators depends on the selected dimension or metric. .. After clicking in the third box, do one of the following: *** Select between the most frequent dimension values suggested (if any). *** Type and select values. *** Click [add], or select Enter to add one or more values to filter on. .. When you want to filter blank and n/a values, select the **Include blank values in filter** and **Include n/a values in filter** checkboxes. > **Important** > > Maximum number of values per filter, depending on the dimension: > > * **Advanced Query Expression**: 5 > > * **Keyword**: 250 > > * All other dimensions: 75 > **Notes** > > * When you select a suggested value, the value is case sensitive, except for **User Query** and **Keyword** dimensions values, which are always case insensitive. > > * When you enter a value, the value is case insensitive. > > * To quickly edit values, click the value, make your changes, and then select Enter. > > * As designed, values aren't suggested for numerical dimensions (for example, **Number of Results**, **Click Rank**, etc.). .. Click **Add Filter**. > **Note** > > You can remove unnecessary filters by clicking [dots] next to the ones you want to remove, and then selecting **Remove**. .. (Optional - for dimension filters only) You can add a named filter with the current filters: ... At the right-end of the bar, click [dots], and then select **Save filter as** or **Save filters as**. ... In the **Save as a Named Filter** dialog, in the first input, enter a meaningful **Filter name**, and then click **Save**. The named filter is now applied to the card. . Click **Add Card** or **Save**. If the card doesn't show expected values, ensure no global dimension filters are in conflict with the dimension filters you just added (see [Add global dimension filters](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1675/)). **Example** On a pie chart displaying search event count per city, you add the filter `Country is Canada`. However, when looking at your pie chart, you see cities from Canada and United States. This is because the global filter `Country is United States` is applied on the dashboard in which the pie chart is contained. Therefore, the resulting filter on your pie chart is `Country is Canada OR United States`. > **Note** > > You can remove all the filters applied on the card, at the right-end of the filter bar, by clicking [dots], and then selecting **Remove filter** or **Remove all filters**. . If you're in Edit mode, don't forget to save your changes by clicking **Save** in the upper-right corner. ## Dimension and metric filters table Depending on the report card type, you can create only dimension filters, metric filters, or both dimension and metric filters.
