--- title: Manage named filters slug: '1990' canonical_url: https://docs.coveo.com/en/1990/ collection: coveo-analytics source_format: adoc --- # Manage named filters [named filters](https://docs.coveo.com/en/264/) are custom filters that refine search [Coveo Analytics data](https://docs.coveo.com/en/259/) shown in each [card](https://docs.coveo.com/en/267/). They can be added to any report, and can be renamed, edited, or deleted at any time. Named filters can also be added in [data exports](https://docs.coveo.com/en/l9fb0345#add-or-recreate-an-export) and in the [Visit Browser](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1964#add-visit-filters). With the [required privileges](#required-privileges), you can use the [**Named Filters**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/)) page to create sets of filters that you can use on many [reports](https://docs.coveo.com/en/266/). **Example** You notice many of your reports contain the same filters, therefore you decide to group them under one named filter to save space and time in the future when creating reports that require these filters. ## Add or edit a named filter . On the [**Named Filters**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/)) page, do one of the following: * To create a new filter, click **Add named filter**. * To edit an existing filter, select a filter, and then click **Edit** in the Action bar. . When creating a new filter, enter a descriptive name. . Click icon:filter-add-2[alt=filter-add-2,width=16], and in the list of available **Dimensions**, select the [dimension](https://docs.coveo.com/en/258/) on which you want to set the filter. You can: ** Sort by event type by clicking **Search**, **Click**, or **Custom**. > **Note** > > Filters that rely on custom event types only work with the UA Protocol. > If your Coveo implementation uses the [Event Protocol](https://docs.coveo.com/en/o3r90189/), custom event types won't function as expected. ** Click **All**, and then use the **Search** box to find and select the dimension of your choice. . In the filter definition dialog box, click the dropdown menu, and then select an operator to apply between the selected dimension and the value. The list of available operators depends on the selected dimension. . Click the third field and enter the filter values. You can: -- ** Select the most frequent ones from the suggested dimensions values (if any). (When you select a suggested value, the value is case sensitive (except for **User Query** and **Keyword** dimensions values, which are always case insensitive).) ** Start typing and select values that appear with the search-as-you-type feature. (As designed, values aren't suggested for numerical dimensions (for example, **Number of Results**, **Click Rank**, etc.).) ** Enter a new value. (When you enter a value, the value is case insensitive.) -- **Example** You want to review the usage of your online help web site in Canada so you add the following two filters: * `Country is Canada` * `Origin 1 (Page/Hub) is Online Help` . Click **Add filter** or **Save**. > **Important** > > Maximum number of values per filter, depending on the dimension: > > * Advanced query expression: 5 > > * Keyword: 250 > > * All other dimensions: 75 > **Notes** > > * To add values, click icon:tabler-circle-plus[alt=tabler-circle-plus,width=16] or select **Enter**. > > * To edit values, click the value, make your changes, and then select **Enter**. > > * To filter blank and n/a values, select the **Include blank values in filter** and **Include n/a values in filter** checkboxes. ### Add to reports When you're done adding or editing your filter, [add the named filter to one or more reports](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1743/). ## Remove named filters . In the confirmation prompt that appears, click **Yes**. > **Note** > > Deleted named filters are automatically removed from the reports in which they're used. ## [[review]]Review named filter management activities As part of your duties, you may need to review [activities](https://docs.coveo.com/en/173/) related to named filters for investigation or troubleshooting purposes. To do so, in the upper-right corner of the [**Named Filters**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/usage/filters/reporting/)) page, click [clock]. The list contains the named filter management activities in reverse chronological order.
