--- title: Review resource activity slug: '1969' canonical_url: https://docs.coveo.com/en/1969/ collection: manage-an-organization source_format: adoc --- # Review resource activity An _activity_ is an event related to a specific [Coveo Platform](https://docs.coveo.com/en/186/) [resource](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2820/) such as a [source](https://docs.coveo.com/en/246/), a [field](https://docs.coveo.com/en/200/), or an [indexing pipeline extension (IPE)](https://docs.coveo.com/en/206/). For example, a source [refresh](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2710/), a field modification, and an IPE deletion are activities logged by Coveo. As part of your administrative duties, you may want to get details on the activities taking place in your [Coveo organization](https://docs.coveo.com/en/185/). This may help you audit operations, identify security problems, and investigate suspicious changes. Details may include the email address of the user who triggered the activity, the date and time which it was triggered, the resource ID, error messages, etc. ## Ways to review activity The [Coveo Administration Console](https://docs.coveo.com/en/183/) offers several ways to review the activity in your organization. All options are accessible to anyone with the [required privileges](#required-privileges). The difference lies in the scope of the information presented, so, depending on what you're looking for, you may use either of the following: * The [**Activity Browser**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/activity/browser/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/activity/browser/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/activity/browser/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/activity/browser/)) displays all the activity in your organization. Since it contains a lot of information, you may want to use the [facets](https://docs.coveo.com/en/198/) to narrow down what's displayed. For example, you can choose to display only the unsuccessful activities and look for a pattern. ![Activity Browser | Coveo](https://docs.coveo.com/en/assets/images/manage-an-organization/activity-browser.png) * Some pages of the Administration Console offer a [clock] button in the upper-right corner. When you click it, the panel that opens shows activity related to all the resources managed through this page. For example, if you click [clock] on the Fields page, you'll see all the activity related to your fields. ![Activity Button | Coveo](https://docs.coveo.com/en/assets/images/manage-an-organization/activity-button.png) * Some pages also offer a resource-specific **Activity** button that appears in the Action bar when you select a resource. For example, if you notice that a source configuration parameter has changed, you can use the **Activity** panel to see who made that change and when. The panel shows the activity relative to the selected source only. ![Activity Button in the Action bar | Coveo](https://docs.coveo.com/en/assets/images/manage-an-organization/activity-button-in-action-bar.png) ## Download update logs Should you need more information about an ongoing or completed [source](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2039/) or [security provider](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1905#refresh-a-security-identity-provider) update operation, you can download logs of the desired [activity](https://docs.coveo.com/en/173/). Log files provide a detailed account of the update process, including any warning or error that hinders part or all the update operation. Information in update logs is nonsensitive. {example} For a [per-item breakdown of the source update operation](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1864/), check the [**Log Browser**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/logs/browser/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/logs/browser/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/logs/browser/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/logs/browser/)) instead. On the [**Sources**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/sources/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/sources/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/sources/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/sources/)) page, click the desired source, and then click **Open in Log Browser** in the **More** menu. Alternatively, from the source configuration panel, click the **Manage source** menu and select **Open in Log Browser**. ![Manage source menu | Coveo](https://docs.coveo.com/en/assets/images/index-content/source-manage-menu.png) To download an update log . On the [**Sources**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/sources/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/sources/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/sources/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/sources/)) or [**Security Identities**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/permissions/providers/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/permissions/providers/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/permissions/providers/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/content/permissions/providers/)) page, click the desired resource, and then click **Activity** in the Action bar. . In the **Activity** panel that opens, click the desired activity, and then click **Download logs** in the Action bar. The downloaded file is named after the unique operation ID representing the selected activity. To locate issue root causes in logs . Open the log file in a text file viewer. . Look for `WARN`,`ERROR`, and `FATAL` messages. ![Indexing activity logs with a warning message | Coveo](https://docs.coveo.com/en/assets/images/index-content/warn-message-in-logs.png) > **Tip** > > Use a log file viewer that supports highlighting by log level to make these messages more noticeable. . If necessary, review `NOTICE` and `INFO` messages. They sometimes reveal a configuration that you overlooked and that may be causing the issue. ![Indexing activity logs with an info message | Coveo](https://docs.coveo.com/en/assets/images/index-content/info-message-in-logs.png) See [Ways to review activity](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1969#ways-to-review-activity) for alternative ways to access this information. ## Required privileges Members with the [required privileges](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3151/) can view and edit elements of the [**Activity Browser**](https://platform.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/activity/browser/) ([platform-ca](https://platform-ca.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/activity/browser/) | [platform-eu](https://platform-eu.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/activity/browser/) | [platform-au](https://platform-au.cloud.coveo.com/admin/#/orgid/activity/browser/)) page (see [Manage privileges](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3151/) and [Privilege reference](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1707/)).
