--- title: Install the Coveo plugin for Jira Software slug: '1918' canonical_url: https://docs.coveo.com/en/1918/ collection: index-content source_format: adoc --- # Install the Coveo plugin for Jira Software To complete the capabilities of its Jira Software Data Center source, Coveo offers a plugin on the Atlassian Marketplace. You must [install it](#install-the-plugin) to support issue-level [permissions](https://docs.coveo.com/en/223/). See [Atlassian's documentation](https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/configuring-issue-level-security-938847117.html) for more information on issue-level security. ## Install the plugin . Log in to your Jira Software Data Center instance using a Jira administrator account. . In the navigation bar at the top, click **Apps**, and then **Manage apps**. . In the search bar, enter `Coveo REST API for Jira`. . Locate the **Coveo REST API for Jira** plugin, and then click **Install**. . In the **Confirm app installation** box that appears, review Coveo's privacy policy and terms of use. . Click **Accept & install** to launch the installation process. Once it's done, a message appears to confirm that the plugin is ready to use. Once the plugin is installed on your Jira Software Data Center instance, you can [add a source](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1772/) to [index](https://docs.coveo.com/en/204/) its content. ## What does the plugin do? Coveo's plugin is designed to respect your security policies and ensure that your data is safe. It's a read-only plugin built using the Atlassian Plugin SDK to allow Coveo to index issue-level [permissions](https://docs.coveo.com/en/223/). It doesn't modify your instance in any way. Coveo's plugin is needed to index issue-level permissions because the Jira REST API doesn't provide this information. So, when [indexing permissions](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1779#same-users-and-groups-as-in-your-content-system), you should [install the plugin](#install-the-plugin) on your Jira Software Data Center instance to ensure that all permission types are indexed. Without the plugin, Coveo automatically supports all other permission types, that is: group & user, project, application role, attachments, comments ([when they're indexed as individual items](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1772#additional-content)), and time tracking. See [Atlassian's documentation](https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/configuring-issue-level-security-938847117.html) for more information on issue-level security.
