--- title: Add a Sitecore source slug: '1579' canonical_url: https://docs.coveo.com/en/1579/ collection: index-content source_format: adoc --- # Add a Sitecore source A Sitecore [source](https://docs.coveo.com/en/246/) [indexes](https://docs.coveo.com/en/204/) content from a [Sitecore XP or XM installation](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp). The [Coveo for Sitecore](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2709/) integration seamlessly creates Sitecore sources and uses the [Push content retrieval method](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1612/) to index content from your Sitecore instance. > **Important** > > * Manage Sitecore sources exclusively within the Sitecore instance using the Coveo for Sitecore [Command Center or configuration files](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2205/). > Changes made to a Sitecore source and related [Coveo organization](https://docs.coveo.com/en/185/) resources via the [Coveo Administration Console](https://docs.coveo.com/en/183/) will often be overwritten when [Coveo for Sitecore interacts with the Coveo Platform](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2554/). > > * Don't use a Sitecore source for [Sitecore XC content](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2169/). Members with the [required privileges](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3151/) may only edit Sitecore [JSON source configurations](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1685/) in the [Coveo Administration Console](https://docs.coveo.com/en/183/) on rare occasions following Coveo Support indications. > **Leading practice** > > The number of [items](https://docs.coveo.com/en/210/) that a source processes per hour (crawling speed) depends on various factors, such as network bandwidth and source configuration. > See [About crawling speed](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2078/) for information on what can impact crawling speed, as well as possible solutions. ## Source key characteristics The following table presents the main characteristics of a Sitecore source.
