Test a Stop Word Relevance

You can take advantage of usage analytics reports to evaluate if a term should be added as a stop word. You can look for keywords with the lowest Relevance Index metric to identify potential stop word candidates.

Access the “Search Relevance” Explorer

  1. Log in to the Coveo Platform as a member of a group with the required privileges to manage explorers in the target Coveo organization, if not already done.

  2. In the navigation bar on the left, under Analytics, select Reports.

  3. On the Reports page, click the Search Relevance explorer, and then in the Action bar, click Open.

The Search Relevance pre-configured explorer can be modified or deleted by a member with the required privileges. Consequently, the explorers may be missing or modified in your Coveo organization. You can recreate default pre-configured explorers (see Create a Usage Analytics Explorer).

Test the Relevance of Your Stop Words

  1. Access the “Search Relevance” Explorer.

  2. In the Search Relevance explorer:

    1. Sort the report on increasing Relevance Index metric values.

    2. Review the keywords with the lowest Relevance Index metric values, looking for stop words.

    3. To test a specific stop word relevance, add a filter on Keyword is [your stop word] (see Add a Dimension Filter).

    4. When a keyword Relevance Index metric value is below 0.5:

      1. Consider adding it to a Stop Words rule (see Manage Stop Word Rules).

      2. A few days later, ensure that the Relevance Index value for the stop word has improved. If not, we recommend that you remove the word from the rule.

The following table indicates the required privileges to view and edit explorers from the Reports page and associated panels (see Manage Privileges and Privilege Reference).

Access to explorers or part of their content may be further restricted as a function of the member (see Manage Access to Usage Analytics Reports and Manage Permission Filters).
