--- title: Tab slug: '1406' canonical_url: https://docs.coveo.com/en/1406/ collection: glossary source_format: adoc --- # Tab A {doctitle} is a Coveo [Quantic](https://docs.coveo.com/en/n9790069/) or [JavaScript Search Framework](https://docs.coveo.com/en/187/) component that the user can select to access a specific section of a [search interface](https://docs.coveo.com/en/2741/). Among other things, selecting a tab may toggle the visibility of certain elements on the search page. It may also enforce a [constant query expression (`cq`)](https://docs.coveo.com/en/179/) so that any [queries](https://docs.coveo.com/en/231/) made from that tab only target a particular subset of [items](https://docs.coveo.com/en/210/). [Coveo Machine Learning (Coveo ML)](https://docs.coveo.com/en/188/) [models](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1012/) need to be informed of tab selections to provide contextually relevant output. When logging a [Coveo Analytics event](https://docs.coveo.com/en/260/), the [origin level 2](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1338/) should be the name or identifier of the tab from which the event originates. Don't confuse this with the Search API [tab](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1343/) parameter.
