# Query expansions
The following Coveo features apply their own expressions to the effective query:

* Ranking Weights (see [Fine-tuning ranking weights](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3412/))
* Stop Words (see [Manage stop words](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3406/))
* Thesaurus (see [Manage the thesaurus of your organization](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3405/))
* Featured Results (see [Manage promoted results](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3376/))
* Ranking Expressions (see [Manage ranking expressions](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3375/))

Ranking weights, stop words, and thesaurus are configurable expressions defined within the Cloud Console (see [Search optimization](https://docs.coveo.com/en/3371/)).
These optimizations are managed by a server-side process (see [Manage query pipelines](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1791/)).

When the exposed feature set of the query pipeline doesn't fulfill a specific use case, it's possible to intervene and configure it at the server level (see [Query pipeline language (QPL)](https://docs.coveo.com/en/1449/)).
